Feeling Overwhelmed During the Holidays?

This time of year can be so stressful for so many of us, with the shopping and shipping, cooking, baking parties and overeating, or indulging in goodies we know are not good for us. I have been feeling a little hungover from all of the above. Half my immediate family lives 1500 miles away, and I always feel so stressed out about trying to mail everyone a Christmas gift. It makes it hard to share my favorite things like homemade vegan tamales.
I remember this time last year my stomach hurt so bad from the overdose of highly processed foods and refined sugar and dairy, that my abdomen was literally swollen and sore to the touch. This year I have done much better, and so far I have not gained a pound and my belly is feeling OK even though I have still managed to eat a fair quantity of butter and cream laden truffles, flan, cookies and even a little Velveeta. I have also made sure to offer myself and my loved ones plenty of healthy food as well to help balance it out. I have made sure to keep drinking my green smoothies every morning and to take a good pro biotic at least once a day. I was feeling extremely irritated and stressed out last night, so I  I went to my yoga class and after I came home I enjoyed a steamy hot bath with scented salts and read a few pages of a good book. There is nothing like melting into the bed right after a relaxing bath. So lets make sure this time of year even if we indulge in processed sugary foods, try to balance it out with healthy snacks too. And lets also make time to relax when we feel stressed out. Go for a walk, take a bath, read a book, get a facial. Then go back to making your cookies and gift wrapping feeling refreshed!
